Gloucester County Clean Community Earns Two Awards in Greatest Virginia Greenup
Gloucester County has another reason to celebrate its commitment to keeping our community clean and green!
Gloucester County Clean Community recently earned two second-place honors as part of Keep America Beautiful’s Greatest Virginia Greenup, recognizing the outstanding efforts of local volunteers to remove litter and beautify the community.
Gloucester County Clean Community received:
2nd Place – Most Bags Collected: $300 award
2nd Place – Most Volunteers: $300 award
Together, the two honors earned Gloucester County Clean Community $600 in award funding.
While the awards are exciting, the real accomplishment belongs to the many volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to making a difference throughout Gloucester County. From individuals and families to civic organizations, businesses and community groups, every volunteer plays an important role in keeping Gloucester beautiful.
There Are Plenty of Ways to Get Involved!
Clean Community works throughout the year to provide opportunities for residents to get outside, pick up litter and show their Gloucester pride.
Annual events and initiatives include:
Spring & Fall Clean Gloucester Day – A community-wide opportunity to tackle litter and give Gloucester a spring & Fall cleaning.
International Coastal Cleanup – Coming Up! – Join volunteers around the world in helping remove litter and debris from our waterways and coastal areas.
NEW: Fall Trash Bash – New this year, the Fall Trash Bash will keep the cleanup momentum going all October long! Residents and groups will have the entire month to get involved and help tackle litter throughout Gloucester.
Household Harmful Waste Collection - Usually held twice a year, the 3rd Saturday in April and October. This free collection is open to Gloucester County residents only.
You Can Help Anytime of Year
You don’t have to wait for an organized cleanup event to make a difference!
Clean Community Coordinator Sherry Kosakowski is ready to help residents, families, organizations and groups get involved throughout the year. Supplies are available for volunteers, and Sherry is happy to talk with community members about how they can participate during one of Clean Community’s special events—or organize a cleanup at another time that works for them.
Whether you pick up one bag of litter or organize an entire group, every effort adds up.
Gloucester County Clean Community extends a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has volunteered, participated in a cleanup or helped spread the word. These Greatest Virginia Greenup awards are a reflection of the community’s hard work and commitment to keeping Gloucester a clean, green and beautiful place to live, work and visit.
