This is Gloucester County’s opportunity to plan thoughtfully for the years ahead —and we want your help shaping Gloucester’s future. This website is the hub for the comprehensive plan update, where you’ll find the latest news, project milestones, upcoming events, and ways to get involved. Whether you’re a longtime resident, a business owner, or new to the community, your ideas, experiences and vision are an important part of this process.
What is a Comprehensive Plan? A comprehensive plan is a long-range guide that helps Gloucester make decisions about growth, land use, transportation, housing, natural resources, and overall quality of life. This update looks ahead through 2051—when Gloucester will celebrate its 400th year—guiding growth and preservation as the County enters its fifth century. This plan will help ensure Gloucester continues to be a place where people want to live, work, and invest—now and for future generations.

Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee
The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee is made up of the Planning Commission members and a citizen representative from each magisterial district. The committee serves as an advisory group that guides the update of the comprehensive plan. The committee represents diverse community perspectives, provides input on key issues and draft recommendations, and helps ensure the plan reflects local priorities and values. Members support public engagement efforts and help build consensus around the plan’s goals and strategies. Their work helps inform Board of Supervisors as they consider adopting the plan.

If your organization, neighborhood association, civic group, business group, homeowners association, nonprofit, or other stakeholder group would like to learn more about the project, County staff are available to provide presentations, obtain input, and answer questions. 2016 Comprehensive Plan
Gloucester County’s 2016 Comprehensive Plan (PDF) was adopted on February 2, 2016 by the Board of Supervisors, with input from citizens and stakeholders. It has assisted community decision-makers in developing informed choices that have shaped the County since its adoption.
Below is the Future Land Use map from the current 2016 Comprehensive Plan. It is a visual cornerstone of the plan and identifies how we want to grow, develop, or be preserved. Updating this map to reflect the common vision for our community over the next 25 years will be an important aspect of the update. What changes would you like to see?
