Hug-A-Tree and Survive: Empowering Kids to Stay Safe in the Wilderness
Gloucester County is proud to support the Hug-A-Tree and Survive program—an AdventureSmart initiative designed to help children stay safe if they become lost in the woods.
This vital program teaches kids:
How to avoid getting lost
What to do if they do get lost
Simple, life-saving survival skills that could make all the difference
Originally developed in the U.S. after the search for Jimmy Beveridge in 1981, Hug-A-Tree and Survive was later adapted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and updated in 2015 by the National Search and Rescue Secretariat (NSS) and SARVAC with engaging videos and activities.
Let’s equip our children with the knowledge they need to stay safe outdoors
