This Must Be The Place… Guinea, Virignia
Gloucester County is composed of quaint little areas that all seem to have their own special characteristics. One of these unique locations is Guinea, Virginia. Gloucester Parks, Recreation & Tourism, in partnership with the Guinea Heritage Association, recently presented and distributed the Guinea Heritage Driving Tour. This allows residents & visitors an opportunity to explore the communities nestled within Guinea Neck. These communities are Maryus, Jenkin Neck, Perrin, and Achilles. The tour showcases 12 stops and comes with a map, online app component, and audio recordings for each stop. The voices recorded for each stop are non-other than native Guinea residents & we had a little help from the tourism division.
Stops along the tour include scenic overlooks, businesses, churches, and important staples within the Guinea Community. A great example of that is number 1 on the tour, Buck’s Store Museum! This building used to be a General Store and Post Office but now is home to a museum that strives to preserve the history and culture of Guinea. During the week this is a local hangout for a group that likes to chat about the weather and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee before starting their day. On Saturday’s the museum is open to the public and they serve famous Buck’s BBQ! ( 10 AM to 2 PM - Lunch from 11-1:30)
