1774 Gloucester County Resolves

If This Be Treason…Dressing the Liberty Pole in 1774

Fellow Citizens, hark to the meeting of the County Committee of Safety and join us in voting upon the County Resolves against the policies of England.

In 1774, Virginians were divided between those who wished to stay loyal to the King of England and those who wished to rebel against the Crown. Are you for or against the Resolves and boycott? Perhaps you wish to remain neutral? Will you sign the articles of association and join the rebels in dressing the Liberty Pole? Go back in time and explore these questions and more!

Join us for an interactive performance at Historic Gloucester Court House as we peer into the origins of the Virginia Bill of Rights and explore our shared colonial history.
