Athletics

Does Gloucester have a public pool or offer swim lessons?

No. Individuals may pay to swim at the Riverside Wellness and Fitness Center or enroll in swim lessons. Call 804-693-8888 for more information.

What youth & adult sports does Gloucester PRT offer?

Gloucester PRT offers a variety of youth sports such as soccer, basketball, T-ball, whiffleball, field hockey, etc. We also offer adult softball and basketball. For a full listing of what we offer please visit our athletics & recreation section of our main PRT home webpage.

There are also local private organization that offer sports that PRT does not. They are also listed on the athletics and recreation section of our main PRT home webpage.

How do I register?

There are several convenient ways to register for Parks, Recreation, and Tourism activities:

  • Register Online at gloucesterva.info/civicrec - Credit Cards only.

  • Stop by our office located at 6382 Main Street (the Stewart Building)- during regular office hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We are closed on Saturdays, Sundays and State Holidays. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted.

How can I get a job with Parks and Recreation?

Contact Gloucester County Human Resources Department for information on all county job openings. All applications are available from Human Resources

I cannot afford to pay the fee for my children, can they still participate?

Parks, Hunting & Fishing

Where can I purchase a hunting or fishing license?

Licenses can be purchased online at https://gooutdoorsvirginia.com/

Who do I contact for hunter safety courses?

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources sponsors hunter's and boater's safety classes.

Where can I fish?

  • For Fresh Water Fishing you can’t beat Beaverdam Park and it is the only public Fresh Water fishing on the Middle Peninsula.

  • Fresh Water licenses are needed for anyone age 16 and older.

  • There are Jon boat and canoe/kayak rentals as well as two boat ramps available in the park.

  • For Salt Water Fishing the pier at Gloucester Point Beach Park is the place to be.
